Does a World Class City Need a World Class Christmas Tree?

Walking down Yonge Street last night, I could not help but see the Christmas tree lit in Dundas Square. Santa will be proud...or will he be?

The thing I admire most about the blue tree is the environmental message. The tree makes a statement that we can celebrate the holiday without chopping down our natural resources from our forests. That part I am very proud about and proud for the ones that made the decision to go this route.

However, don't you think that our great city needs something a bit more...well...world class? The tree is reused and holds the same design every year. Is there any way to spice it up? If we want tourists to visit our city and put lots of money into our local economy, shouldn't we have something a bit more ...festive?

I suggest that we collectively come up with a yearly design contest-concept that gets people wondering every year what the design is going to be. This will hopefully make them want to come into the city, celebrate the holidays with us and support our local economy.
