Kevin Foxx Interview: CFRB Radio Idol competitor

CFRB 1010 is searching for the next "Talk Radio Idol" and comedian Kevin Foxx is close to taking the prize. The Vancouver comic has been winning his battles in the Toronto CFRB studio and is one win away from making it to the finals of the competition. He took a moment to speak with Toronto CityGuide.

What's been the competition like for you so far?
It has been a dream come true for me, I have been a fan of talk radio since I was a kid and it's an amazing learning experience. I am used to doing stand-up comedy so this is a new set of muscles for me to stretch.

How would you describe your show?
It's a call in show and I try to speak from the heart and bring some humour to topics that aren’t necessarily discussed in a humorous way. So far I have talked about our obsession with celebrity, infidelity, and corporal punishment for kids. Tune in this Sunday to find out what subject I will tackle next.

Who are radio personalities you admire?
I love Art Bell, Howard Stern, and I am a huge fan of The Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McLean. I have been learning a lot listening to all the gang at CFRB Bill Carroll, Michael Coren, Jim Richards and John Donabie.

How'd you hear and decide to get involved in this competition?
My Father actually entered me in it and has been my biggest supporter. I think he wants his own show, but he will settle for me getting one.

What's been the funniest moment on the show for you?
Probably when I accidentally cut off Michael Coren's microphone as he was doing a pre-show interview with me. I think a lot of listeners were very jealous of me at that moment. (laughing)

How has your standup helped you on air?
Well once I became used to being in the studio and not in front of a live audience where I can bounce off their energy I was able to relax and just let my natural humour guide me. It is very different though, being a good radio host is a lot about listening.

Who's left for you to defeat in the competition?
I have one more competitor to be named this Friday Nov. 9th at 6:56am (est.) on CFRB 1010 AM who I don't know yet and if I beat him or her then I am in the finals against two ladies who have won four weeks in a row as well, if I beat them I get my own show on CFRB every Sunday between 9-10pm.
