Saffron Tree spices up Bay and Gerrard area

DSC_1616.JPG

When you think of an Indian restaurant on Gerrard Street, your mind will likely travel to the east end of Toronto. But just west of Bay Street on Gerrard Street West, Saffron Tree is prominently displayed as the only Indian buffet in the area. At $12.38 for their lunch buffet, it's a good deal with plenty of selection.
When you walk in it is a nice looking room with a lot of space. We were greeted by a very casually dressed Indian gent with a cap on, who was very polite, but his wardrobe seemed incongruent with the decor of the restaurant. Nonetheless, it had no impact on the experience--there was plenty of food to choose from for veggie and meat eaters alike. Chick peas, spinich rice, eggplant where some of the choicier dishes on the buffet table for the veggie inclined. There was plenty of naan as well, warm and good to go.
The chef is actually an alumni of another Indian restaurant in Indian Flavour. He brought along one of his staffmates too--our waitress, a warm and friendly Asian lady who was enthusiastic about serving us, use to work there as well.
Saffron Tree's a good place to check out if you're in the area of College and Dundas, near the subway line.
