Edward Karek, Communications Officer of the Toronto Public Library, emailed me this morning regarding the Thorncliffe Branch's closing for major renovation to meet the demands of its clients. The branch will close on Saturday, December 8. Building improvements to the 37 year old building are in partnership with the City of Toronto's Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division and the City of Toronto*s Children*s Services Division. The renovation will also include an expansion of the day care and the Jenner Jean-Marie Community Centre, all located within the same building.

The library renovation will:
~ Double the branch size from 5,000 to 10,000 square feet Add a new community room for meetings, programs and quiet study
~ Add KidsStop, an interactive centre designed to develop pre-literacy skills in children Introduce wireless high speed Internet access
~ Add a new Teen zone
~ Add a new adult reading lounge
~ Install express check out
While the Thorncliffe Branch is closed, library customers can return materials to any Toronto Public Library Branch and pick up holds at:
~ Flemingdon Park Branch, 29 St. Dennis Drive, 416-395-5820 Customers may also ask staff to change pick-up location to any Toronto Public Library branch.
The bookmobile service will be parked in the East York Town Centre lot on Wednesday mornings and Sunday afternoons starting in January 2008.
Other nearby branches are ~
Leaside Branch, 165 McRae Drive, 416-396-3835 Pape/Danforth Branch, 701 Pape Avenue, 416-393-7727.
